One great thing about the way the game of paintball has developed is the way you can legitimately (emphasis on legitimately!) modify your markers. For a while there, it was looking like an increasingly expensive game until someone figured out that modifications were the way to go.
Now you don’t have to buy a pistol, a machine gun AND a sniper rifle to explore the different ways of playing the game. You can if you want to, and there are definitely some quality prefabs out there. However, for the average player, modifying kits are the best option for the price.
The big trick is in knowing what markers are compatible with what modification kits. There is a leaning toward universal compatibility these days, but we’re still not completely there yet. Before you go so far as to use paintball kits to modify your marker, always, always ALWAYS check the condition of your gun. You should have been keeping up with the upkeep all along, as if it were a real firearm. Just to be safe, though, make sure that you don’t have any problems with it before buying the kits.
If you don’t already have an easily modified marker, the Tippman A5 is a good versatile marker to have. With it, you can easily convert to an AK-47 or even a sniper rifle with the right kits. It’s a question of what you’re going to want when you head to the field.
